busy student bagels

Student life can be busy and student life can be expensive. A double-whammy. Here on the blog I am going to try to provide you with some simple, quick, inexpensive recipes to help fuel your brain and body throughout the day. I am not talking about fuelling your body by following a diet of "clean meals" or "miracle smoothies" I am talking about foods that students can afford and prepare in the limited time we sometimes find ourselves with during the week. If I have learned anything thus far it is that ALL FOODS FIT IN A HEALTHY DIET and keeping up with the latest food trends in not worth your time and effort. We have so much to think about as students and I hope I can help to find ways to alleviate some of the stress around cooking and food preparation, allowing you to get the energy you need throughout the day in the most convenient, cost effective, and delicious ways possible.

My first year of university I found myself waiting in line for a bagel and coffee almost every day. The $1.95 bagel at Starbucks did not seem outrageously expensive in the moment, but if I was buying a bagel every day of the school week, about 20 bagels per month, it was costing me almost $40 monthly! That is $160 spent on bagels alone in just one semester! In addition to that, if I was waiting in line for 10 minutes every day, that is 50 minutes out of my week, over 3 hours every month that I could have been doing something else with!

If you can relate, these busy-student-bagels are for you! Each of these bagels will end up costing approximately $0.50 cents in ingredients. That is only about $10 to eat a bagel every day at school for 1 month, i.e. a savings of 75%! On top of that, total prep time for this recipe is under 10 minutes, and during the 20 minutes of cooking time involved you can be doing whatever else your heart desires!

Not only are these bagels cheap and quick to make, you can also customize the flavours to whatever your mood is for the week! You can go so far as to make each bagel in your batch its own unique flavour!

Did I mention that these bagels are also absolutely delicious and so wonderfully chewy? Plus how fun is it to eat something that delicious that you made with your very own hands? I truly hope you enjoy this recipe, let me know of any fun toppings combinations you come up with in the comments below!

BONUS: I made my very first ever tik-tok video for this recipe! It is quite obviously my first video and I realized when trying to use the app that I am not as young and hip as I previously thought I was, haha! If you want to check it out you just need to click on the tik-tok icon in my website menu to get there!
