toast post

Bread is good. Bread after 3 minutes in the toaster? Amazing. So amazing in fact that I named my entire blog after it, haha!

Toast is so versatile, so quick, and so delicious. It can be part of a nourishing breakfast or enjoyed as an afternoon snack! As students we don’t always have a lot of time to make big elaborate dishes, but sometimes eating the same old thing can get a little boring. Toast is ideal because you can make it so many different ways!

By getting just a little creative, you can catch some extra nutrients and level-up the flavour of your morning toast. I like to follow this simple formula when my toast needs just a little something extra:

bread + spread + topping + extras

Bread is important if you are making toast. Whole grain bread is a great option for providing energy, fibre and B-vitamins!

A good spread is always important to add flavour and maybe even some healthy fats to your toast! Choosing a topping or spread that contains protein will help to keep you feeling satisfied. Another option is to add sliced fruits or vegetables such as banana or cucumber as a topping for some fresh flavour and extra nutrients!

Finally, I will top my toast with some sort of spice or seasoning because if I am taking the time to make myself food, I want it to taste good!

Some of my favourite toast toppings?

  • guacamole + egg + balsamic vinegar

  • mayonnaise + tomato + ground black pepper

  • nut butter + banana + cinnamon

  • salsa + egg + melted cheese

  • yogurt + sliced strawberries + shredded coconut

  • hummus + cucumbers + oregano

  • cream cheese + tomato + pesto

  • tuna + diced celery + melted cheese

  • honey toast :)

To make things easier, I made a fun little infographic to help you experiment and formulate your best toast creations yet! At the bottom of this post you will find a pdf version to print out and refer to whenever you need a little inspiration!

I hope that your next slice of toast is a great one! If you make something delicious, snap a picture and tag me on Instagram at @honeytoastblog! I am so excited to be inspired by your creations!
